TRAIL CÂMARA DE LOBOS

Trail Câmara de Lobos is a race organized by the ACDJS (Cultural and Sporting Association of Jardim da Serra) and ACRE (Cultural and Recreational Association of the Estreito). There are four routes – Ultra Trail of 47 km 3500 D + CL-MTS, Long Trail of 22 km 1280 D + CL-MTS, Short Trail of 8.5 km 310 D + CL-MTS of distance and Young Trail of 3.2 km 120D +. The longest trail runs through the five parishes of the council of Câmara de Lobos and a passage through the counties of Ribeira Brava and São Vicente.

RACE INFORMATION

Câmara de Lobos municipality, in the South of Madeira Island and just about 10 Km. away from Funchal, is one of the most emblematic tourist sites on the island. In the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and with majestic landscapes, it’s in Câmara de Lobos that the world famous Madeira Wine is produced.

But Câmara de Lobos isn’t only tourism and tradition! The municipality promotes and encourages the practice of sports, having even received in 2017, and for the second consecutive year, the title of “Município Amigo do Desporto” (Sport’s friend municipality) awarded by the Portuguese Association of Sports Management.

One great example of the multiple sports events in this zone is the Câmara de Lobos Trail, organized by SCD Jardim da Serra (Jardim da Serra Culture and Sports Association) in partnership with ACRE (Estreito de Câmara de Lobos Cultural and Recreational Association).

This event aims to promote the human interaction with nature in a perfect symbiosis and ecological sustainability, showing at the same time the landscapes Câmara de Lobos and some of its main tourist attractions.

The Trail Câmara de Lobos has 4 races: the Ultra Trail, with 47Km, the Long Trail, with 22.5Km., the Short Trail, with 8,5Km and the Youth Trail, with 3,2Km.

The event counts for the 3 rankings: ultra, long and short trail of Madeira Trail Circuit. The Ultra Trail Câmara de Lobos e o Trail Longo Câmara de Lobos are races certified by ITRA (International Trail Running Association), and their score is, respectively, 3 and 1 points.

The trails are mainly in mountain and hilly environment and run through the five parishes of the Câmara de Lobos municipality: Câmara de Lobos, Curral das Freiras, Estreito de Câmara de Lobos, Jardim da Serra e Quinta Grande. The Ultra Trail also passes briefly through the municipalities of São Vicente and Ribeira Brava.
